Monday, November 2, 2026 · The Week Ahead · About a 3-minute read

Good morning, Titusville. A plan to save Hubble, a new police chief starting today, and an Election Day tomorrow — here is the week ahead.

THE 3 THAT MATTER
1. NASA asks industry how to save Hubble — or bring it down safely
NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center issued a Request for Information on October 29 seeking commercial concepts to boost the Hubble Space Telescope to a higher orbit, service it, or guide it into a controlled reentry before it falls from orbit on its own. Companies can answer one or more of the three options, any mission must happen by 2032, and responses are due by 3 p.m. EST on Monday, November 30.

2. Titusville’s new permanent police chief starts today
Tyler “TJ” Wright takes the permanent chief’s job today, Monday, November 2, removing the interim tag he has held since the summer. Wright is a 19-year Titusville Police veteran who rose from officer to deputy chief, and City Manager Tom Abbate cited his deep local roots and focus on community partnerships in the decision, the City of Titusville announced Thursday.

3. Vulcan’s return to flight is planned for November 13, pending range approval
United Launch Alliance says it plans to launch its Vulcan rocket on Friday, November 13, from Space Launch Complex 41 at Cape Canaveral, pending approval from range authorities — ending a pause in Vulcan flights that stretches back to February 12. The mission, Vulcan Leo 1, carries the next batch of Amazon Leo broadband satellites and would be the first flight of Vulcan’s most powerful configuration, with six solid rocket boosters.

LAUNCH WATCH
No launch is scheduled today, and the next mission has no confirmed date yet. The SpaceCoastLaunchCalendar.com copy checked this morning is stale — it still lists Amazon Leo (LV-01) on a Vulcan for October 28, a date that has passed — so no date is printed from it. Talk of Titusville confirms every launch on launch day.

ROADS, CITY & SAFETY
No road closures were verified on the City of Titusville official website this run. City notices in effect: solid-waste and bulk pickups may run late while county facilities handle high volumes, so leave items curbside until collected; and starting November 15, utility customers cut off for nonpayment must pay the full balance by 1:00 PM for a same-day reconnect.

ONE FROM HISTORY / SPACE
24 years ago today — November 2, 2002 — NASA’s Stardust probe flew past asteroid 5535 Annefrank, passing about 3,079 kilometers (1,913 miles) from it. The flyby was a full rehearsal of the tracking, imaging and dust-collection procedures Stardust would use at Comet Wild 2 fourteen months later, and its images showed Annefrank is about 8 kilometers (5 miles) long — roughly double the size predicted from Earth. Stardust launched from Space Launch Complex 17A at Cape Canaveral on February 7, 1999, and brought comet dust back to Earth in 2006.
