Friday, October 30, 2026 · The Weekend Planner · About a 3-minute read
Good morning, Titusville. A permanent police chief, a lawsuit over the casino ship, and a Halloween weekend in costume — here is the weekend planner.
THE 3 THAT MATTER
1. Titusville has a permanent police chief
The City of Titusville announced Thursday that Tyler “TJ” Wright is its new permanent chief of police, removing the interim tag he has held since the summer. Wright is a 19-year Titusville Police veteran who rose from officer to deputy chief, and he takes the permanent role on Monday, November 2. City Manager Tom Abbate cited Wright’s deep local roots and focus on community partnerships in the decision.

2. Shipyard sues Victory Casino ship over alleged $790,666 in unpaid bill
A South Carolina shipyard is suing the M/V Victory I in federal court over an alleged $790,666 in unpaid repair and berthing charges, and is asking the court to arrest the vessel. The casino ship sailed from Port Canaveral before an extended dry-dock stay shut down Victory Casino Cruises’ operations. The amount is an allegation in the filing, not a court finding.

3. Today is the last day to weigh in on 50 New Glenn launches a year
Written comments on Blue Origin’s plan to increase New Glenn launches at Cape Canaveral from 12 to as many as 50 a year close today, Friday, October 30. Comments go through regulations.gov under Docket No. FAA-2026-9841.

LAUNCH WATCH
No launch is scheduled today, and the next mission has no confirmed date yet. The SpaceCoastLaunchCalendar.com copy checked this morning is stale — it still lists Amazon Leo (LV-01) on a Vulcan for October 28, a date that has passed — so no date is printed from it. Talk of Titusville confirms every launch on launch day.

ROADS, CITY & SAFETY
No road closures were verified on the City of Titusville official website this run. City notices in effect: chlorine dosing of the water system ends today, October 30 — tap water remains safe to drink, though taste or odor may change — and solid-waste pickups may run late, so leave items curbside until collected. Clocks fall back Sunday, November 1, and the fall-winter irrigation schedule starts the same day: watering once a week — odd-numbered addresses on Saturday, even-numbered on Sunday, commercial on Tuesday.

ONE FROM HISTORY / SPACE
41 years ago today — October 30, 1985 — Space Shuttle Challenger lifted off from Launch Complex 39A at Kennedy Space Center on STS-61-A, carrying the German Spacelab D-1 laboratory and a crew of eight — still the largest crew ever to ride a single spacecraft from launch to landing. West Germany largely financed and directed the science while NASA flew the shuttle; the crew ran about 76 microgravity experiments and landed at Edwards Air Force Base on November 6 — Challenger’s ninth and last successful flight.
