An 18-year-old high-achieving student from Titusville, Anna Kepner, died over the weekend while traveling with family aboard the Carnival Horizon cruise ship.
The vessel returned to Port Miami on Saturday, where the FBI launched an investigation into the circumstances of her death. The cruise ship was completing a voyage from Miami to the Caribbean when the incident occurred.
Remembered as ‘Happy, Bubbly’
Anna Kepner, a senior at Temple Christian School, is remembered by her family and community for her warmth, spirit, and compassion. She was preparing to graduate in May and had already begun speaking with recruiters after completing testing to join the U.S. military.
Anna’s family described her as a “happy, bubbly, straight-A student with a bright future ahead,” according to a statement provided to ABC News. “When she walked into a room, she would light it up,” her family said. “If you were sad, she’d make you laugh.”
Her body was taken off the ship by federal agents and medical examiners, but authorities have not released an official cause of death. Carnival Cruise Line confirmed her passing and said it is cooperating fully with the FBI.
“Our focus is on supporting the family of our guest and cooperating with the FBI,” Carnival Cruise Line said in a statement.

Community Impact and Local Ties
A varsity cheerleading team member, Anna’s interests also included the water; she had earned her boater’s license and scuba certification. Loved ones affectionately called her “Anna Banana.”
Those who knew her describe her as selfless and outgoing, someone whose smile could brighten anyone’s day. “She was a people person,” her family said. “She loved being around people and had that type of energy that just drew you in.”
Her impact was felt locally in Titusville, where she frequently volunteered. Aqua-Mart released a heartfelt public statement mourning her loss.
“Anna was a huge part of our Aqua-Mart family,” the business wrote. “There won’t be a single day that goes by that we don’t think of her and remember the good times we shared.”
The teen was also involved in her grandparents’ 55-plus community and aided other local small businesses. Her family noted her outgoing nature. “She was a people person,” her family said. “She loved being around people and had that type of energy that just drew you in.”
The FBI continues to investigate the matter. The agency has released no further details on the ongoing investigation.
