North Brevard voters will head to the polls on Tuesday, Aug. 18, 2026, to decide key primary races shaping the future of Titusville, Mims, Port St. John and the surrounding Space Coast communities.

The primary ballot features critical local contests for the Brevard County Commission, Brevard County School Board, Titusville City Council and the Canaveral Port Authority. Voters are encouraged to review the candidates before casting their ballots for the leaders who will manage local growth, schools, and infrastructure.

Titusville City Council
All Titusville voters will see two nonpartisan city council races on their ballots. Four candidates are competing for Titusville City Council Seat 1: Darcia Bair, Elizabeth Baker, Herman A. Cole and John Dacko. The race for Titusville City Council Seat 5 features Christopher Childs, David Hobart and Kayla Manning.

Brevard County Commission District 1
The District 1 commission seat oversees decisions regarding growth, infrastructure, the Indian River Lagoon and county budgets in North Brevard. Because Florida is a closed primary state, only registered Republicans will vote in the District 1 Republican primary to choose their party’s nominee.

Four Republican candidates are on the ballot:

• Pam Avery emphasizes her connection to North Brevard and supports fact-based solutions for the Indian River Lagoon.
• Stel Bailey, an environmental advocate, focuses on clean water, public health, transparency and auditing public projects.
• Rick Heffelfinger campaigns as a fiscal watchdog prioritizing the county budget and property tax oversight.
• Micah Loyd, a current Canaveral Port Authority Commissioner, stresses responsible growth, infrastructure improvements and coordination with the local space industry.

Brevard County School Board District 1 The School Board District 1 race is nonpartisan and will appear on all ballots in the district, regardless of a voter’s party registration. Challenger Tara “Coach T” Gibson is running against incumbent Megan Wright for the seat.

The winner will help oversee local public schools in a district that recently earned an “A” rating from the state.

• Gibson advocates for renewing the local school millage, raising teacher pay through a progression model and adopting balanced school safety measures.
• Wright focuses on empowering parents, maintaining disciplined classrooms and supporting the ongoing policies that have contributed to the district’s high graduation rates.

Other Local and Judicial Races Voters across the district will also decide the Canaveral Port Authority District 5 universal primary contest between Carol Craig and Randall May. Additionally, nonpartisan judicial races for the 18th Judicial Circuit include Group 4 candidates Larry Freeman and Robert Alan Segal, as well as Group 13 candidates Andrea Fant and George Cole Gaspard. The County Judge Group 3 race features Rodney Antonio Edwards and Timi DeAnn Tucker.

Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Aug. 18. Voters can view their specific sample ballots through the Brevard County Supervisor of Elections before heading to their local precincts.
