A domestic violence incident involving Karl Christopher Gibson, 45, of Titusville, escalated into a fatal officer-involved shooting on Friday morning.
According to police and city officials, the incident began at approximately 6:50 AM on December 6, 2024, when officers responded to a 911 call from a woman being aggressively pursued and threatened by her estranged husband in vehicles traveling southbound on South Washington Avenue. Gibson, who was under a court-issued no-contact order, fled from officers after they attempted a traffic stop.

The pursuit continued onto South Hopkins Avenue before officers deployed stop sticks, ultimately forcing Gibson to stop at a home on Meadow Lark Drive. Upon exiting his vehicle, Gibson brandished a weapon, prompting officers to discharge their firearms. Gibson was critically injured and transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 8:08 AM.
Further details about Gibson’s prior behavior have come to light. A sworn affidavit filed by Titusville Police on November 21, 2024, outlines disturbing allegations of domestic violence, including an incident in which Gibson reportedly held a gun to his wife’s head during a confrontation at their former shared home on Meadow Lark Drive. During the May 2024 incident, Gibson allegedly threatened both himself and his wife, coercing her to hold the firearm while making alarming statements.
The victim reported that Gibson had a history of erratic and threatening behavior, often exacerbated by alcohol and drug use, which led her to fear for her safety and delay reporting the incidents. Following the May incident, Gibson was arrested and charged with domestic violence, with the court issuing a no-contact order to protect the victim.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating Friday’s officer-involved shooting, while the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office is handling the crime scene investigation. No officers or civilians were injured during the confrontation.
“This is an active investigation, and further details will not be released until its conclusion,” the Titusville Police Department stated.
