Brian Potters, a former Brevard County deputy sheriff who survived a life-threatening ambush in August 2021, has announced his candidacy for the Republican nomination for Brevard County Sheriff in the 2024 election.
Potters made the announcement in a video where he expressed his concerns about the current state of the sheriff’s office and the need for change.

In the video, Potters stated, “I’m running because I have grown increasingly concerned about the course of events that has occurred within our county. In my opinion, the root of these problems lies here year in the office of sheriff.”
He criticized the existing “good old boy system” that he believes is more focused on its own interests than on the needs of its employees and the community.
Potters continued, “Our sheriff’s office has become a mecca of the good old boy system that functions largely for its own benefit, increasingly insensitive to the needs of its employees and citizens.”
He emphasized that the status quo is not the solution to the problems facing the county. “I don’t believe for one minute that four more years of business as usual is the answer to our problems. I don’t think the voters of Brevard County believe it either,” he added.
Potters concluded his announcement by saying, “In January 2025, we will make the change into the 21st century.”
