A juvenile bicyclist sustained non-life-threatening injuries after colliding with a vehicle Tuesday morning near Coquina Elementary school authorities said.
The crash occurred at approximately 8:00 a.m. on May 20 near Knox McRae Drive and Beacon Avenue.

According to a traffic crash investigation update from the Titusville Police Department, the juvenile was operating a bicycle when they collided with the rear passenger side of a vehicle turning westbound onto Knox McRae Drive.
Preliminary findings by traffic investigators revealed that the bicycle’s braking system was non-functional, which contributed to the crash. Police also noted that the juvenile was not wearing a helmet at the time of the incident.

The juvenile was transported to a local hospital for treatment and was initially listed in stable condition.
The incident prompted Titusville police to issue a reminder for parents and riders to regularly inspect bicycles to ensure all safety equipment, especially brakes, functions properly. Officials added that wearing a bicycle helmet can significantly reduce the risk of serious injury in the event of a crash.
