The company is seeking a $1.26 million grant from Brevard County’s economic development entity as an incentive for the move. The project, currently dubbed “Project Topaz,” could also bring as many as 100 military and civilian personnel to the area.

The North Brevard Economic Development Zone (NBEDZ) has conducted an economic analysis, revealing that the 300 direct jobs could result in 519 additional jobs at other businesses, including specialty suppliers and vendors.

The average annual wage for these new positions is expected to be $89,466, with roles ranging from technicians to project managers. The total annual payroll could reach $26.84 million, with additional fringe benefits averaging $27,734 per employee.

The identity of the company behind Project Topaz is currently confidential, as are the specifics of the facility and its operations. However, there is speculation that Lockheed Martin Corp. may be involved. The company is also considering other locations for its expansion, including Alabama and Colorado.

The NBEDZ board has unanimously approved the $1.26 million grant, but the Brevard County Commission must also give its approval, which is not guaranteed based on past decisions.

If approved, initial production at the Titusville facility would begin in 2027, reaching full-rate production by 2034. The company is also considering a capital investment ranging from $107.7 million to over $150 million. The facility would be operational by 2027 and could accommodate a multi-decade military contract through the U.S. Department of Defense.

While Project Topaz is making headlines, it’s worth noting that Titusville is rapidly becoming a hub for aerospace and defense companies. Draper recently broke ground on its Strategic Enhanced Ground Test Facility, which aims to employ around 50 staff initially and could expand to over 150 employees.

Amazon is also investing $120 million in a satellite processing facility at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center. Space Perspective, another Titusville-based company, has sold over 1,600 tickets for its Spaceship Neptune, aiming to make space travel more accessible.

The proposed ‘Project Topaz’ expansion could have a significant impact on Titusville and the broader Brevard County area, further solidifying our area’s reputation as a hub for aerospace and defense. However, many details remain undisclosed, and the project’s approval is still pending.
