A tragic incident occurred on U.S. 1 North of Glenn Road on Nov. 2, 2023, when a vehicle and a bicyclist collided, resulting in the death of the cyclist.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol official press release, a 2010 Ford Escape, traveling northbound in the inside lane of U.S. 1, collided with a bicyclist who was also heading north in the center grass median of U.S. 1.

The cyclist ventured northeast from the center grass median to the inside northbound lane, putting her directly in the path of the oncoming vehicle.

Tragically, the impact was fatal for the 37-year-old female cyclist from Mims, FL. She was immediately transported to Parrish Medical Center, where she was pronounced deceased.

The occupants of the Ford Escape, a 59-year-old female driver and a 59-year-old male passenger, both from Titusville, FL, did not sustain any injuries. They remained at the scene.

The crash is currently under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol. Trooper Phipps is the designated crash investigator, and Corporal Wenzel is handling the homicide investigation.

Further details will be released as the investigation progresses. The community is urged to exercise caution while traveling and to be vigilant of cyclists and pedestrians sharing the roadways
