BREAKING: Coast Guard searches for woman reported overboard on cruise ship near Port Canaveral

UPDATE: A passenger who went overboard on a MSC Meraviglia cruise ship returning to Port Canaveral, Florida has been found dead, according to the U.S. Coast Guard.

PORT CANAVERAL, Fla. — The U.S. Coast Guard is searching off the coast of Central Florida after reports of a person who has fallen from a cruise ship.

A Channel 9 photographer is on the ship and heard the alert that a search is on after a passenger fell overboard on the cruise ship MSC Meraviglia.

Passengers and crews were gathered on the deck of the ship soon after the alert was issued.

The ship was scheduled to return to Port Canaveral on Thursday morning but was stopped around 20 miles off the coast of Cocoa Beach.

The ship was returning to the port from the Bahamas when emergency notifications were made over the ship’s loudspeaker and it was halted in the water.
