A proposed walkway pier connecting Veteran’s Park with Gemini Park might be a reality in the near future. Former Mayor Walt Johnson proposed the idea during a City Council Meeting in July 2019.

City Council approved budgeting $60,000 for a feasibility study in September 2019. While a final cost is yet to be determined, documents show the City has allocated over $200,000 for the project.

A permit exemption from the permitting agencies has been granted to the project. Taylor Engineering is proceeding with 100% design plans and specifications for bidding. Public Works will update a cost estimate and provide it to the CRA for review prior to bidding the project begins.

The parks are separated by an inlet that requires visitors to back track to visit both parks. The pier if found feasible to construct will meet the CRA’s Plan goal of connecting the City’s parks and providing a water front attraction for residents and visitors to view rocket launches.

Taylor Engineering, the company tasked with completing the design of the pier, will present the 60% design plans during the City Council Meeting on Tuesday, September 27th at 5:30pm in the Council Chamber at City Hall. The Public is encouraged to join the public meeting to voice concerns or ask questions.
