64 Year-Old Merritt Island Pedestrian Killed After Being Hit By Three Vehicles On U.S. 1 in Cocoa

The Florida Highway Patrol reported that a 64-year-old Merritt Island man walking along the road was killed Friday morning at 6 a.m. in an incident on U.S. 1 and Beau Geste Road in Cocoa.

According to Lt. Kim Montes, Florida Highway Patrol Public Affairs Officer, three vehicles were traveling southbound on U.S. 1, in the left lane.

Lt. Montes said the pedestrian appeared to be standing in the left lane when a 26-year-old man in a pickup truck hit him with the vehicle’s side mirror.

As the victim laid in the roadway, two other vehicles, including a a tractor trailer driven by a 55-year-old man from Mims, and a SUV driven by a 59-year-old woman from Cocoa, were unable to avoid the victim and both vehicles struck him as he lay in the roadway, according to Lt. Montes.

The victim, who has not been identified, was pronounced dead on the scene and there were no other injuries reported.

Lt. Montes said this crash remains under investigation.
