A local man was arrested for stealing cash from a woman and pushing her as she tried to pay for merchandise at a local convenience store located at 2 South Hopkins Avenue on Thursday, August 27, 2020, at approximately 3:00 AM.
Cecil Smart, 32, of Titusville, was charged with:
Robbery by Sudden Snatching
Aggravated Assault
Battery
Petit Theft
Violation of Probation and Resisting Arrest without Violence.
The preliminary investigation revealed the suspect grabbed the victim’s money off of the store’s front counter, pushed her, made a verbal threat and then fled the scene on foot southbound on South Hopkins Avenue.

The victim was not injured.
Officers arrived on scene, gathered initial investigative information and began a K9 track to apprehend the at-large suspect.

The suspect was spotted near the crime scene and was taken into custody after a brief foot pursuit.
In addition, police recovered the suspect’s backpack containing two large machete-like knives, which were in his possession during the crime.
Smart was positively identified by witnesses and booked into the Brevard County Jail without bond.
