Wednesday, November 4, 2026 · What You Missed · About a 3-minute read
Good morning, Titusville. A 22-year space mission ends today, the city is still dealing with Monday’s flood water, and the Thunderbirds headline this weekend — here is what you missed.
THE 3 THAT MATTER
1. NASA’s Swift Observatory is expected to re-enter today
After nearly 22 years in orbit, NASA’s Neil Gehrels Swift Observatory is expected to plunge back into Earth’s atmosphere today, Wednesday, November 4. Launched in 2004, Swift carried three telescopes built to catch gamma-ray bursts — the universe’s most powerful explosions — across multiple wavelengths of light.

2. Titusville discharges treated water into the Indian River Lagoon after torrential rains
Heavy overnight rainfall overwhelmed the city’s wastewater system, pushing flows between the Osprey and Blue Heron facilities to full capacity. Early Monday, the city began a controlled discharge of treated reclaimed water into the Indian River Lagoon near the Osprey facility, to prevent wastewater backing up into homes and streets. The city stressed the water is not raw sewage — it has completed full treatment, filtration and disinfection — state regulators have been notified, and residents were asked to cut nonessential indoor water use.

3. MAX Power air show is this weekend at Kennedy Space Center
This Saturday and Sunday, November 7 and 8, NASA’s MAX Power expo brings the Salute to America in Space air show to Kennedy Space Center, headlined by the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds. For the first time in years, the public can drive inside Kennedy and park on the runway where space shuttles once landed. MAX Power is split into three separately ticketed parks — a ticket to one does not get readers into the others — air show tickets are advance purchase only, gates at 9:00 AM, flying 1:00 to 4:30 PM.

LAUNCH WATCH
No launch is scheduled today, and the next mission has no confirmed date yet. The SpaceCoastLaunchCalendar.com copy checked this morning is stale — it still lists Amazon Leo (LV-01) on a Vulcan for October 28, a date that has passed — so no date is printed from it. Talk of Titusville confirms every launch on launch day.

ONE FROM HISTORY / SPACE
16 years ago today — November 4, 2010 — NASA’s EPOXI mission, the Deep Impact spacecraft on its second career, flew within about 700 kilometers of comet Hartley 2. Hartley 2 was only the fifth comet nucleus ever imaged up close, and Deep Impact became the first spacecraft to visit two comets with the same instruments. Its peanut-shaped nucleus is about 2 kilometers long, with carbon-dioxide jets blasting from its ends; the flyby returned more than 117,000 images and spectra.
