Titusville Police Department has issued a traffic advisory and accompanying video for citizens and visitors ahead of the upcoming manned SpaceX Crew Dragon launch.
The Titusville Police Department’s highest priority is the safety of our citizens and visitors. We would like to update community members and those individuals who are entering the city to view the significant upcoming launch on traffic information and mapping.
The highly anticipated manned Space X Dragon Crew Capsule Launch is scheduled for Wednesday, May 27th at 4:33 PM. Police want to advise motorists to slow down in launch viewing areas on U.S.#1, State Road 406 along the A. Max Brewer Bridge, and the surrounding park areas.
During this historic and exciting time, we want to remind motorists and pedestrians that road safety is a two-way street. Motorists and pedestrians should be highly alert and vigilant in a coordinated effort to keep the roadways safe!
Motorists, please be advised of heavy vehicle and pedestrian congestion and significant traffic delays are anticipated before and after the launch. Please slow down, put down distracting devices, and watch for pedestrians.
Pedestrians, look for oncoming vehicles and obey traffic laws by crossing roads at designated crosswalks when possible.
A MULTI-AGENCY traffic exit plan has been developed to help with a safe exit from the City of Titusville after the Space X Dragon Crew launch.
Traffic Routes
All motorists on Garden Street (SR 406) and on the A. Max Brewer Bridge and surrounding areas will proceed west on SR 406. All motorists north of Harrison Street will proceed northbound. All vehicles south of Harrison will proceed southbound.
PUBLIC ACCESS ROAD CLOSURES:
– NASA Causeway between U.S. 1 and the Kennedy Space Center’s Visitor Center will also experience restricted access. The roads will reopen after launch.
– The A. Max Brewer Causeway bridge on S.R. 406 in Titusville (north bridge) east to Playalinda Beach Road, Canaveral National Seashore will be restricted to all motor vehicle traffic. The Playalinda Beach park will be open until capacity is reached or 5:30 p.m., whichever comes first. If you are planning on visiting Playalinda Beach, please inform the uniformed officers at the checkpoint.
– State Road 3 North at US1 in Volusia County, south to Playalinda Beach will be open to all motor vehicle traffic until capacity is reached, or at 5:30 p.m., whichever comes first.
Please expect delays and plan accordingly.
Lastly, we are encouraging motorists to download the WAZE app (www.waze.com/apps) to their mobile devises. This valuable application is an intuitive tool that will help identify and map designed traffic routes and potential altercations in fluid traffic routes out of the city in real time
