A horrific collision involving two large trucks on Interstate 95 north of Mims claimed a life and sparked a dangerous brush fire on Thursday afternoon.
The Florida Highway Patrol reported that the incident occurred at approximately 2:25 p.m. near mile marker 232, involving a semi-truck with a trailer and a 2004 Volvo truck.

According to investigators, the semi-truck overturned after the collision and struck the inside shoulder guardrail before becoming completely engulfed in flames.
The driver of the semi-truck, whose identity is pending confirmation, was tragically pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver and passenger of the Volvo truck were not injured and remained on-site to speak with troopers.

The intensity of the crash ignited a vegetation fire in the area of Blounts Ridge and Aurantia roads. Brevard County Fire Rescue responded to the blaze, which grew quickly enough to prompt the emergency evacuation of two nearby homes.
Traffic remains in a state of gridlock as authorities have implemented a total roadblock for all northbound lanes and the inside southbound lane.
FHP officials are diverting traffic and advising all motorists to prepare for extended delays while the investigation continues and crews work to clear the wreckage. The following detour is in place:
Motorists traveling on northbound I-95 should take exit 231 to Deering Parkway (C.R. 5A), turn left onto U.S. 1, then turn left onto State Road 442 (Indian River Boulevard) to reach I-95. See detour map below

CORRECTION: A previous version of this article stated the fire nears Blounts Ridge was caused by this fatal crash. It has been confirmed that the fire was not started by this crash
