A 42-year-old Titusville man was killed early Friday morning after crashing his vehicle while fleeing from police, according to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP).
The crash occurred at approximately 2:19 a.m. at the intersection of Park Avenue and State Road 405 (South Street).
According to FHP, the driver of a 2025 Hyundai Elantra was traveling westbound on Park Avenue at a high rate of speed with no headlights or taillights on. Witnesses reported that the vehicle “blacked out” while speeding through the intersection.
Authorities say the vehicle collided with a closed gate leading to the Brevard County dump and hazardous materials site. The impact caused the car to go off the roadway, become airborne, and crash into a ditch. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
Titusville Police Department (TPD) had been attempting to locate the vehicle prior to the crash after officers lost visual contact about a mile away. According to the report, TPD was not actively pursuing the suspect at the time of the crash.
During the investigation, troopers discovered a stolen firearm inside the vehicle. The crash remains under investigation.
