Jeff Bezos’s aerospace firm, Blue Origin, is deepening its industrial footprint in Titusville and across Florida’s Space Coast.

The localized expansion comes as the company concurrently repairs its primary launch infrastructure following a dramatic prelaunch pad explosion earlier this year, while also pressing forward with a brand-new, super-heavy-class rocket facility.

Localized Growth at Space Coast Regional Airport
According to Titusville-Cocoa Airport Authority records, the airport entered into a temporary nine-acre space use agreement along Challenger Avenue with Blue Origin to accommodate the influx of contractor activity. The company is paying $16,880 a month under an agreement running through June 30, 2027.

The staging area sits roughly a half-mile from Blue Origin’s light-manufacturing operation housed inside the former Eckler’s warehouse complex on Grissom Parkway. That facility is projected to employ approximately 100 workers.

Furthermore, Airport Director Kevin Daugherty announced that a pending agreement will see Blue Origin lease space at the airport’s former terminal building at 1 Bristow Way, where the company plans to make property improvements and move in.

Daugherty also noted that Blue Origin has evaluated Space Perspective’s former balloon factory—a massive white 700-foot-long tent structure near the old terminal—as a potential option for future light manufacturing or logistics. Airport officials have praised the partnership, calling the aerospace giant a first-class operation to work with.

Rebuilding After the May Pad Explosion
The local expansion moves in lockstep with intense recovery efforts down the road at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station. On the night of May 28, a New Glenn rocket exploded on the pad during a prelaunch engine test at Launch Complex 36, causing extensive damage to the multi-million-dollar site.

CEO Dave Limp later identified the root cause of the “significant anomaly” as originating at the main oxygen valve of one of the rocket’s BE-4 engines. Despite the setback, Limp has publicly committed to returning New Glenn to flight before the end of the year.

Developing Launch Complex 36B and the “Super-Heavy” New Glenn
Even as crews work around the clock to restore Launch Complex 36A—which will continue supporting the standard New Glenn 7×2 configuration—Blue Origin is simultaneously building a brand-new sister site: Launch Complex 36B.

The new pad is specifically designed to handle a larger, super-heavy-class variant known as the New Glenn 9×4. This jumbo rocket will feature nine BE-4 engines on its first-stage booster and four BE-3U engines on the upper stage, engineered with the muscle to haul more than 70 metric tons into low-Earth orbit.

Infrastructure progress for the 9×4 platform is moving rapidly. According to social media updates from Limp, construction crews are sourcing 2,500 tons of steel columns to construct 50-foot modular cubes that will form a towering 700-foot launch structure at Complex 36B.

Additional Cape Canaveral infrastructure projects include a new vertical integration facility for the 9×4 variant and a joint payload processing facility built in partnership with the Space Force to support national-security and commercial missions.

With over 4,500 employees state-wide, billions invested across hundreds of Florida suppliers, and aggressive physical expansion scaling from Merritt Island up through Titusville, Blue Origin’s footprint on the Space Coast continues to widen rapidly despite the hurdles of its ongoing launch pad recovery.
