A homicide suspect from a neighboring county is dead after crashing a vehicle at Sand Point Park on Monday night, following an alert from the city’s automated license plate reading system.

The Titusville Police Department said the critical incident was resolved with no injuries to law enforcement officers.

Officers were alerted to the suspect’s presence when the vehicle entered the city and was detected by Titusville’s Flock Safety camera technology.

Police quickly located the vehicle, which subsequently crashed at the waterfront park, according to a statement from the department. The driver was found deceased at the scene.

Authorities say a handgun was recovered from the vehicle. Titusville detectives have assumed the death investigation and are working with the Brevard County Medical Examiner’s Office, which will make the final determination on the cause of death.

Titusville Mayor Andrew Connors commended the swift response of local officers and regional law enforcement partners.

“This incident demonstrates the value of investing in modern public safety technology and maintaining strong partnerships with neighboring law enforcement agencies,” Connors said in a statement. “These tools help our officers respond quickly to dangerous situations and play an important role in protecting our community.”

The investigation remains active. Titusville police jeld a press conference around 10:15 p.m. with additional details.
