Aerospace manufacturer Relativity Space is planning a major expansion across the Space Coast, with the company evaluating a parcel at Space Coast Regional Airport in Titusville as a primary candidate for a $350 million manufacturing and research campus.
The project, which will create thousands of high-paying jobs through 2034, includes a dedicated production facility for the company’s 284-foot-tall, heavy-lift Terran R rocket.
In addition to the proposed Titusville footprint, the initiative encompasses expanded launch and testing infrastructure across NASA’s Kennedy Space Center and Launch Complex 16 at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station.
Governor Ron DeSantis officially unveiled the expansion on July 20 during the Farnborough International Airshow in the United Kingdom alongside state economic officials.
Titusville Airport Site Under Review
State and local agencies initially advanced the project under the secret code name “Project Forge”. Public records show the Space Florida Board of Directors approved up to $350 million in conduit financing for the initiative during a June 2 meeting at Orlando International Airport.
According to a June 18 Titusville-Cocoa Airport Authority memorandum, Relativity Space is conducting due diligence on authority-owned property adjacent to State Road 407 at Space Coast Regional Airport. The evaluation involves reviewing zoning classifications, wetland boundaries, roadway access points, and initial site layouts.
Speaking to Talk Of Titusville, Titusville Mayor Andrew Connors said the city’s active involvement in competing for the facility.
“Relativity is eyeing a couple of different locations here in North Brevard. I really hope it is in Titusville,” Mayor Connors said. “I would love to have Relativity join our city as they look to help NASA get to Mars and advance human space travel.”
Funding and Mars Mission Synergy
Along with the $350 million conduit financing structure approved through Space Florida, Relativity Space will be eligible for up to $134 million from the Florida Department of Transportation Spaceport Improvement Program.
The expanded production capacity will directly support commercial, defense, and deep-space science commitments, including a public-private partnership with NASA for the 2028 Aeolus mission to Mars.
Under that agreement, NASA will supply the Aeolus atmospheric science instrument payload, while Relativity Space will construct the spacecraft, supply the Terran R launch vehicle, and manage flight operations to gather global data on Martian weather and dust dynamics.
Extensive pad upgrades and stage-one qualification testing remain underway at Launch Complex 16 as the company prepares for the initial orbital launch attempt of the Terran R vehicle.
