Governor Ron DeSantis has appointed former Titusville City Council member Rita Pritchett to the Brevard County Board of County Commissioners, returning her to the District 1 seat she held for eight years.
The appointment, announced Thursday, brings Pritchett back to the local governing body less than two years after Florida’s eight-year term limits required her to vacate the same position in 2024.

Pritchett is filling the vacancy created by former Commissioner Katie Delaney, who resigned effective May 2 after relocating outside of Florida. Delaney was elected to the Space Coast seat in 2024.
A licensed certified public accountant, Pritchett currently works as a professor at Eastern Florida State College and as an administrator at New Life Space Coast Church and Academy. Before her initial election to the county commission in 2016, she served two terms on the Titusville City Council.
Pritchett will step into the role of a caretaker commissioner, holding the District 1 seat until a permanent successor is chosen by voters in November to finish out the remaining two years of Delaney’s original term.
A special election for the seat is already underway, with four candidates running in the Aug. 18 primary election. The candidates include business owner Nathan Slusher, Port Authority Commissioner Micah Loyd, Stel Bailey, and Rick Heffelfinger.
Pritchett is not a candidate in the upcoming election and will hand over the seat once the final results are certified in November.
