An 11-year-old boy is recovering after being struck by a bullet Friday afternoon in Mims, according to the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded to Parrish Medical Center around 4 p.m. following reports that a juvenile had arrived at the facility with a gunshot wound. Investigators stated the boy’s injuries are considered non-life-threatening.

Preliminary findings suggest the child was not the intended victim of the gunfire. A sheriff’s office spokesperson said it is believed the boy was struck by a bullet intended for a person he was with,

The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office has not yet identified any suspects. The investigation remains active.
