A 52-year-old Winter Springs man died Saturday afternoon after losing control of his motorcycle on Interstate 95 in northern Brevard County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred at approximately 4:45 p.m. near mile marker 228, just south of Deering Parkway.
Troopers said the man was riding a 2014 Yamaha FJR1300 southbound in the inside lane. Witnesses told investigators the motorcyclist was traveling above the posted speed limit when he failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway.
The motorcycle ran off the road to the left and struck a guardrail, throwing the rider from the bike. First responders pronounced the man dead at the scene.
FHP officials noted the rider was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
There is currently roadblock for the inside and center southbound lanes of I-95. The identity of the victim has not been released pending notification of next of kin. The crash remains under investigation by Trooper Schaad and Corporal Mendez.
