The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) is investigating a fatal hit-and-run crash that occurred Sunday night on U.S. Highway 1, according to an official FHP press release.
The incident took place on Sunday, October 12, 2025, at approximately 10:50 PM, at the intersection of U.S. Highway 1 and Orbiter Court.
The FHP preliminary report indicates that two vehicles were involved, traveling northbound on U.S. Highway 1: an unknown vehicle (V1) and a 2025 Jiang Zhon motorcycle (V2).
The driver of the unknown vehicle reportedly attempted to change lanes, which resulted in the vehicle striking the rear of the motorcycle.
The impact caused the 61-year-old male motorcycle rider, who was a resident of Melbourne, to be thrown from the bike. He was not wearing a helmet and sustained fatal injuries. Next of kin has been notified.
The unknown vehicle (V1) fled the scene immediately following the collision.
The crash remains under investigation by FHP Crash Investigator Trooper Provencher and Homicide Investigator Corporal Mendez.
The Florida Highway Patrol is actively seeking information regarding the unknown vehicle and driver involved in the hit-and-run.
