A man was fatally shot by Titusville police officers Friday night after officers responded to a suspicious incident investigation, according to a press release from the Titusville Police Department.

The shooting occurred around 9:15 p.m. on Feb. 7 in the area of Robbins Avenue. Officers had arrived at the scene shortly after 9 p.m. and encountered Tri-Marea Rayquan Charles, 26, of Titusville, armed with a handgun.

Shots were fired, and the suspect, an adult male, was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

No officers were injured in the incident.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) has taken over the investigation into the shooting, while the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office is handling the forensic and evidence processing.

Authorities have not released further details about the suspect or what led to the confrontation. Additional information will be made public at the conclusion of FDLE’s investigation.
