In a recent press briefing, Sheriff Wayne Ivy of the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office addressed the community regarding significant developments in the ongoing investigation into the tragic homicide of 39-year-old Amber Renee Estep.

On Thursday, law enforcement agents, in collaboration with the West Virginia State Police, apprehended Brian Estep, the husband of the victim, on charges of first-degree premeditated murder and tampering with evidence related to a capital felony.

The investigation into Amber’s disappearance commenced on January 19th, following a report by her concerned mother, who had not heard from her daughter for several days. Amber, who had failed to attend work at a local hotel, was last seen by her husband, Brian Estep, on January 16th.

Initial interviews with Brian revealed conflicting information, prompting intensified scrutiny into his account of events. Subsequently, search warrants were executed, leading investigators to a wooded area known as the “black hole.” Here, evidence crucial to the case emerged, including blood matching Amber’s DNA and multiple projectiles buried in the soil.

Brevard County Sheriff’s Office Provides Update on Homicide Investigation

Further investigations unveiled a harrowing sequence of events, implicating Brian in the disposal of Amber’s remains. Despite his attempts to fabricate an alibi and destroy evidence, law enforcement pieced together a timeline that directly linked him to the crime.

Following the discovery of Amber’s body near Pitbull Lane off State Road 46, Brian Eastep relocated to West Virginia, where he was apprehended on Thursday, March 28th, 2024.

Presently detained on a no-bond status, he awaits extradition to Brevard County to face charges for his alleged involvement in Amber’s murder.
