In a tragic turn of events, 33-year-old Devin Carroll of Titusville, who had been hospitalized since November 3, 2023, has passed away.
His death followed an incident, originally reported by Titusville Crime News, at Viera Regional Park that ended with him getting hit by a vehicle while brandishing a firearm
The incident began to unfold when Carroll, riding in a car with a female friend, became paranoid and armed himself with a handgun. After the woman stopped the car near Borasco Drive and fled, a gunshot was heard. Carroll, too, left the scene. Deputies later found a spent shell casing at the location.
Carroll’s actions escalated at Viera Regional Park, where he was seen threatening individuals gathered for a sports event. By the time law enforcement arrived, Carroll had been incapacitated after being struck by a car in the park’s parking lot.
Witnesses reported that Carroll had attempted to flee in another car but failed to start it. He then confronted an oncoming vehicle, pointing his gun at the driver, who, in self-defense, hit Carroll with the car. The driver has been cooperating with the investigation and remains unidentified.
Carroll was transported to a hospital, where he remained until his death. The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation into this incident.
