A series of incidents, including two vehicle fires and a crash, caused significant traffic disruptions on Interstate 95 near Cheney Highway on Sunday, impacting surrounding areas for hours.
The events began with a call to Brevard County Fire Rescue (BCFR) and the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) about a box truck on fire on the northbound outside shoulder of I-95. Upon arrival, deputies found the box truck fully engulfed in flames. Firefighters quickly responded and extinguished the fire.

During the incident, a vehicle struck the BCFR District 20 Fire Chief’s vehicle, who was working the incident scene. BCFR made a statement saying that the Chief, who was in the vehicle at the time, will be ok.
BCFR emphasized the seriousness of the incident and reminding motorists of the Florida Move Over law, which mandates drivers to shift lanes or slow down when approaching emergency vehicles.
In a separate unrelated incident, another call came in for a vehicle fire on the southbound side of I-95, less than three miles from the initial box truck fire.
Traffic camera footage showed the swift action of Fire Engine 28 in containing the fire, preventing it from spreading to the passenger compartment and thereby preserving the interior contents of the vehicle.
The series of incidents caused major traffic delays in Titusville and surrounding roadways. BCFR and local authorities are investigating the causes of the fires and the crash.
Officials urge drivers to exercise caution when approaching emergency scenes and to adhere to safety laws designed to protect first responders and the public.
