Local residents are sounding the alarm over a suspected sewage leak at Scobie Park, located in Downtown Titusville.
Stel Bailey, the Executive Director of Fight for Zero, recently took to Facebook to share photographs that appear to show an active sewage leak emanating from a pipe within the park.

The online community has been abuzz with Titusville residents expressing their worries. Numerous comments on several posts describe a distinct and unpleasant smell pervading the vicinity of Scobie Park.
In addition to the images, Bailey also posted test results that she received from Kevin Cook, the City of Titusville’s Public Works Director.

These tests unveiled alarming levels of Fecal Coliforms and E.coli present at Scobie Park. Specifically, the Fecal Coliform count stood at 332 MPN/100mL, while E.coli levels reached 906 MPN/100mL.
Highlighting the gravity of the situation, Bailey said, “The fecal Coliform results at Scobie Park are elevated, which may indicate that there’s a slow and steady leak somewhere. This is a concern for water quality and human health.”

Bailey also stated, “We hope the continued testing will be used to understand the full scope of the situation better. We also want to see plans to improve the shoreline with regular cleaning and projects to filter the pollutants and bring the area back to life.”
Bailey also expressed her gratitude to the Public Works Director, Kevin Cook, for his swift response to the Florida Department of Environmental Protection report on testing. She commended him for his transparency in sharing the results with the public.
Stel Bailey emphasized the role of social media in raising awareness but pointed out that the real decisions are made within the walls of city hall. “I encourage Titusville residents to get engaged with their elected officials,” Bailey added.
As of now, the City of Titusville has not responded to an email for comment and has not yet issued an official statement regarding the concerns at Scobie Park.
