An alarming incident unfolded Monday morning at the Space Coast Regional Airport in Titusville when a Schweizer 269C helicopter crashed during takeoff, according to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

The FAA reported that the accident occurred around 10:40 a.m. on the aircraft parking ramp while the helicopter was attempting to take off.

The pilot, who was the sole occupant of the aircraft at the time of the accident, was immediately attended to by emergency personnel. A spokesperson for Brevard County Fire Rescue confirmed that the pilot was swiftly transported to a nearby hospital.

The extent of the injuries sustained by the pilot is unclear at this moment, however, they were reported as minor by Brevard County Fire Rescue.

The FAA is currently leading the investigation into the cause of the helicopter crash. No further information has been made available at this time.

The scene at the airport remains contained and operations continue as investigators conduct their inquiries.
