A local man was arrested on Wednesday after threatening a woman with a firearm and then evading police, according to a press release from the Titusville Police Department.

The suspect, 52-year-old Dax William Rodriguez of Titusville, was charged with a slew of offenses including Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Kidnapping, Armed Burglary, Criminal Mischief, Aggravated Fleeing and Eluding, Violation of Probation, Theft, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, and Witness Tampering.

Officers were dispatched to a residence on the 3000 block of Willis Drive at approximately 4 PM on Wednesday, May 10, 2023, following a 911 call concerning a man brandishing a gun.

The initial investigation determined that Rodriguez was threatening an adult female with a firearm at the location. The woman managed to escape to a neighbor’s house and contacted authorities.

On arrival, police secured a perimeter around the residence. Rodriguez, however, had already fled the scene in a stolen vehicle, leading law enforcement on a high-speed chase beyond city limits. Despite attempts to conduct traffic stops by multiple agencies, Rodriguez refused to comply.

The pursuit ended on S.R. 50 in east Orange County when police employed tactical driving maneuvers to halt the stolen vehicle. Officers discovered Rodriguez’s firearm in the front seat of the vehicle.

Rodriguez was subsequently apprehended and booked into the Brevard County Jail without bond at 7:29 AM on Thursday, May 11, 2023.

The investigation is ongoing, and Rodriguez could face additional charges from other law enforcement agencies. The Titusville Police Department did not provide further details, citing the active nature of the case.
