Last month, the Blue Heron Water Reclamation Facility experienced problems with its high-service reclaimed water pumps. Temporary pumps were installed to address the issue until permanent replacements could be delivered.

However, consumers have reported continued issues with low pressure, affecting the operation of their irrigation systems. Some subdivisions receive reclaimed water, while others do not. The Water Resources Department has begun investigating the problem, isolating sections of the system to determine the specific locations experiencing low pressure. Crews will inspect areas with low pressure to identify any potential issues with the distribution lines.

The department has acknowledged the concerns of its customers and appreciates their patience as they work to resolve the service issues. Regular updates on the status of the reclaimed water system will be provided on the Water Resources Department’s website. Customers with specific concerns or questions are encouraged to contact Water Reclamation at (321) 567-3891.

Reclaimed water is not essential for basic health and safety, as it is primarily used for irrigation and commercial cooling towers. Interruptions to service, though inconvenient, are not life-threatening.

The current irrigation schedule under Daylight Saving Time permits twice-weekly irrigation. Reclaimed water users must adhere to these restrictions, as should residents using city (potable) water or well water for irrigation. The amount of reclaimed water available for distribution is limited by the flow of sewage received.

Over-irrigation can lead to lawns becoming less drought-resistant and more susceptible to pests and disease. The department reminds residents to adhere to the mandated irrigation schedule to ensure reclaimed water is available for all who need it.
