At 3:20pm, officials stated the fire is 15-20 acres in size, not including spot overs and 65% contained

Around 50 homes were evacuated Friday afternoon south of Port Saint John when a wildfire broke out, Brevard Emergency Management said, with the fire damaging or destroying at least 10 of them.

Brevard County Fire Rescue and Florida Forest Services responded to the fire at US1 and Camp Road after it began at about 12:53pm, said Don Walker, Brevard Emergency Management spokesperson. which started the fire was 3 acres in size at 2pm

About 50 homes along Akorn Street, Ronald Avenue and Wixie Street were evacuated. As of 2:50 p.m., at least 10 homes had been destroyed or damaged in the fire.

Florida Forest Services requested two additional tractor units and a fixed wing aircraft to fly over and get a better estimate of the fire’s size, said Cliff Frazier, wildfire mitigation specialist for Florida Forest Service.
