A Titusville man shot another man multiple times in the torso after they had been hanging out in a garage drinking beer, an arrest affidavit said.

Alexander Witt, 32, was charged with attempted second-degree murder after the Sept. 12 shooting, which occurred at a house on Calendula Avenue. This home in the Lake View Hills neighborhood is near South Lake, off the west side of Interstate 95.

Witt remains held without bond at the Brevard County Jail Complex.

When Brevard County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the home on Sept. 12, they found a man lying on the garage floor with several gunshot wounds to his abdomen and torso area.

The homeowner told deputies that he, Witt and the victim had been drinking beer together and hanging out in the garage. But then Witt and the victim started arguing about comments made about the homeowner’s girlfriend, an arrest affidavit said.

The victim punched Witt in the face, knocking over his motorcycle. The homeowner picked up the motorcycle and walked out of the garage with his back turned to the other men  — and then he heard four gunshots, the affidavit said.
Witt fled after the shooting, the affidavit said. The shooting victim suffered life-threatening injuries, and he was flown by medical helicopter to Holmes Regional Medical Center in Melbourne for emergency surgery.

A warrant was issued Tuesday, and Witt was arrested Thursday. He will be arraigned Oct. 15 at the Historic Titusville Courthouse.
