Brevard County Public Schools was one of more than 40 districts across Florida to receive an anonymous, mass-emailed bomb threat Tuesday evening, prompting an investigation by local and federal law enforcement.

School officials told parents late Tuesday the threat was not considered credible and appeared to be a financial hoax. School will proceed as scheduled today, Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2025.

The anonymous group email, which was sent to school districts statewide, claimed explosive devices were placed on school grounds. Brevard Public Schools officials immediately notified the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office and the FBI.

“These threats are not considered credible and appear to be part of a hoax intended to solicit money,” the district said in a release to families. The district emphasized that there is no indication of danger posed to schools and that all students and staff are safe.

The threats caused a flurry of communication among Florida school districts and law enforcement agencies as the scope of the simultaneous emails became clear.

The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office and FBI are actively investigating the origin of the messages. Making a false bomb threat is a felony offense under Florida Statute, which carries severe penalties, including expulsion for at least one year and referral for criminal prosecution.

The district has asked parents and students to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to school administrators or law enforcement.

This incident marks the latest in a series of “swatting” or hoax threats that have impacted Brevard County schools and other Florida districts in recent years, placing a strain on local emergency resources.
