A broken water main on Florencia Circle has led to a precautionary boil water notice for 28 residences after a contractor damaged the line Tuesday morning.

According to a news release from the city, the water main was struck and broken by a contractor at approximately 10 a.m. The city’s Water & Sewer Operations Division responded by shutting off the water at 11:15 a.m. to begin repairs.

The outage affects 28 customers on Florencia Circle. The affected addresses are: 757, 761, 767, 770, 771, 772, 774, 776, 777, 778, 780, 781, 782, 784, 786, 787, 788, 790, 792, 794, 796, 798, 799, 800, 801, 802, 804 and 806.

Once water service is restored, a precautionary boil water notice will be in effect. The city stated notices will be hand-delivered to the affected homes. Residents are advised to boil all water for one minute before using it for drinking, cooking, making ice, brushing teeth or washing dishes. Bottled water can also be used as an alternative. Water is safe for bathing, laundering and other non-consumptive uses.

The boil water notice will remain in effect until a bacteriological survey confirms the water is safe. City officials anticipate rescinding the notice by Thursday, Sept. 11.

Residents will be notified when the notice is lifted. For additional information, residents can contact the Public Works Water & Sewer Operations Division.
