The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is scheduled to begin work today, Jan. 5, 2026, on a $29.8 million roadway resurfacing project along a nearly 10-mile stretch of Interstate 95 (I-95) in northern Brevard County.

The project encompasses 9.7 miles of both northbound and southbound lanes from south of State Road (S.R.) 50 to S.R. 46, traversing the Titusville and Mims areas. Masci General Contractors, Inc. is the lead contractor for the improvements.

In addition to the main interstate, crews will resurface ramps at the S.R. 50, S.R. 406 (Garden Street), and S.R. 46 interchanges. A primary feature of the project includes widening the northbound I-95 exit ramp to S.R. 46 to extend the existing right-turn lane, which is expected to facilitate smoother traffic flow.

Starting tonight, motorists should expect intermittent single-lane closures during the overnight hours between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m. While the existing posted speed limit of 70 mph will be maintained throughout the project limits, officials advise drivers to proceed with caution through the work zone.

The infrastructure upgrades include refreshed roadway signs, new pavement markings, and upgraded ramp lighting. Enhanced traffic management technology will also be installed to improve safety and travel through the corridor.

“Motorists should anticipate areas of uneven pavement within the project limits,” FDOT stated in its project information handout, noting that roadway conditions are short-term and will improve as the contractor applies multiple asphalt layers in phases.

Electronic message boards and other signage will be used to direct traffic through the construction zone. The project is estimated for completion by the spring of 2027.
