Motorists traveling near Kennedy Space Center and Playalinda Beach should prepare for traffic delays beginning Monday, Dec. 8, as crews begin a monthlong resurfacing project.

The “Repair Beach Road” initiative is scheduled to start at 8 a.m. and will result in lane closures on key thoroughfares leading to the space center. The project is expected to continue until early January 2026.

Work will begin at the west property line of the Kennedy Space Center on Titusville Road, also known as A. Max Brewer Memorial Highway (State Road 406). The resurfacing will continue east onto Beach Road (State Road 402) and conclude 500 feet from Wilson’s Corner at the intersection with Kennedy Parkway North.

Traffic will be restricted to one lane of travel at a time. Project managers advise that the closures will affect both lanes, and drivers should anticipate delays of approximately five minutes in both directions.

The direction of the lane closures is scheduled to reverse each week throughout the duration of the project.

Officials urge drivers to allow for extra travel time and to exercise extreme caution while passing through the work zone. Maintenance of Travel safety protocols will be in effect, with signage, cones and flaggers present to direct traffic.
