In a bold vision for Florida’s role in space exploration, Governor Ron DeSantis suggested relocating NASA’s headquarters from Washington, D.C., to Florida’s Kennedy Space Center during an event on the Space Coast Wednesday.
The announcement came alongside the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) establishing the Florida University Space Research Consortium.

While the MOU signifies a major step in advancing Florida’s space research, it was DeSantis’s proposal to move NASA’s headquarters that captured attention.
“There is an interest in moving the headquarters of NASA right here to Kennedy Space Center, and I’m supportive of that,” DeSantis said. “They have this massive building in Washington, D.C., and like nobody goes to it. So why not just shutter it and move everybody down here?”

For now, the state continues to build on its rich space legacy, leveraging its resources and talent to remain at the forefront of aerospace innovation.
Florida, already home to NASA’s Kennedy Space Center and the private spaceflight hub SpaceX, stands poised to solidify its reputation as the “space capital” of the United States.
