The Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation conducted the inspection, which resulted in a stop sale on certain food items and the immediate closure of the establishment until violations are corrected.

Inspectors documented a total of 18 violations, with several posing a direct threat to foodborne illness. These included food contaminated by employees, raw animal food stored over ready-to-eat food, and time/temperature control issues for both hot and cold food items.

Additionally, inspectors found black mold in the ice machine, soiled ceiling tiles, and an accumulation of debris in the walk-in freezer. A vacuum breaker was also missing at a hose bibb, a violation that can lead to contaminated water.

Steve’s Diner had previously been cited for repeat violations, including a failure to store wet wiping cloths in sanitizing solution and employee beverage containers on food preparation tables.

The establishment will remain closed until all violations have been addressed and a follow-up inspection confirms compliance with Florida’s sanitation and safety laws. As of Wednesday, June 26th, the notice on the door has been removed. To view the Health Departments inspection report, click here

You can find similar discrepancies in other restaurants as well. Perhaps rush hour crowds, short staffing, people who call out regularly help add to the discrepancies. We have lived in Titusville for 5 years and we have eaten at nearly every restaurant in town. We’ve been treated like valued customers and have never experienced food that needed to be recooked or anything that made us sick. Steve’s family diner is a great place for family dining and the discrepancies I read indicate excessive nitpicking. Leave them alone. They are a great restaurant.

I have lived in titusville for 5 years and my husband and I eat out 3 times a week. Steve’s diner food was good, like old school. But we stopped going there because it felt dirty, the carpet in the dining area, the ceiling, and the bathrooms are gross. It needs this time to revamp itself.

  4. Drove by today, Saturday 29 Jun, Steve’s is back Open ….
