LifePointe Ministries, Inc., a local ministry, is accusing Parrish Medical Center of violating elderly neglect laws after dropping off a wheelchair-bound man with health conditions onto their doorstep.

Pastor Royce ‘Scooter’ Morrison shared a social media post showing a wheelchair-bound man with congestive heart failure, diabetes, and a missing lower leg was left on their doorstep. The man was discharged with no pants and wearing a soiled shirt.

“He was in a soiled shirt and had open wounds,” wrote Pastor Royce “Scooter” Morrison in a Facebook post. “He was extremely weak and couldn’t pull himself out of the wheelchair to use the restroom.”

LifePointe Ministries volunteers provided the man with food, clothing, and hygiene products. They also contacted the hospital, who reportedly said the man was “medically cleared.”

However, after a frustrating conversation, volunteers were able to convince the hospital to send transportation to take the man back. The cab driver, according to Morrison’s post, was instructed to drop the man off at Sand Point Park, a location known to have ordinances against homeless people.

Later Monday evening, volunteers with Under The Bridge Ministry met with the man at the park and contacted the Department of Children and Families (DCF). DCF reportedly launched a neglect case and arranged for the man’s transport back to the hospital for further evaluation.

“If an animal were left in this condition, responsible party would be arrested for animal abuse,” Morrison wrote. “This is a human being. A very sick human being.”

The Facebook post has garnered significant community outrage, with many criticizing Parrish Medical Center and calling for an investigation. Comments from local residents also highlighted the need for more resources for the homeless population, including transitional housing and better access to healthcare.

  1. I applaud Pastor Morrison for speaking out against the shoddy treatment the homeless have experienced. I’ve experienced it myself.

A hospital is not a homeless shelter or referral agency. If the hospital diverts its attention to the needs of the homeless, who will attend to medical needs? I am disappointed with the Life Ministries on this one.

    1. You’re a piece of shit

Parrish does not attend to medical needs of normal patients with their one doctor.

    3. Parrish Medical Center should not have left that poor man in the condition they left him in, soiled shirt no pants open wounds this is a human being we’re talking about here what would have happened if he would have succumbed to the negligence from the hospital, Parrish Medical Center is a poor excuse for a hospital, they don’t care about the needs of people only their paychecks

Parrish Medical Center has shared an Open Letter to the Community regarding this distorted story of homeless neglect. I encourage you to also post this: https://www.parrishhealthcare.com/news/2024/june/re-response-to-distorted-story-of-homeless-negle/

  4. It is hard for me to believe that Parrish Medical Center would do such a thing. My husband had brain trauma issue’s, everyone was helpful and caring. They gave support to him an as well for me for 8years. He had his left leg amputated due to infection from a knee replacement ftom a doctor in West Palm Beach. Doctors from Parrish helped me get my husband into see a doctor in Orlando who amputated his leg. I lost my husband 2 years ago due to septus. All threw that Parrish Medical Center was always their for my husband an myself.

  5. So sorry to hear about your husband. The difference here is that your husband had insurance and this poor homeless man had none.

  6. Doesn’t surprise me at all after all it is Parrish hospital.

  7. Every person deserves to be treated for their medical needs, regardless if they live in a mansion or a park bench. As a nurse, I took a Pledge and Doctors took an Oath. Do no harm is pretty simple. This saddens me very much.

  8. I am conflicted because I know that there are always two sided to every story. I’m sure this person at some point in his life was offered housing and care but as many people living on the streets do but due to our laws that people make their own decisions he elected not to accept what is offered. Very difficult for all involved. PMC cares for many homeless people.

  9. PMC takes care of many homeless people. If he is medically cleared their hands are tied. They are not a shelter nor is it their responsibility to transport or clothe patients. He may have refused further help from them. There are two sides to every story. How can you expect them to help every homeless person who comes there.

  10. Am I the only person who sees this as an OBVIOUS scam ? I am just not sure is the original scammer.
