The Titusville Post Office is expected to remain closed for approximately three weeks following a mercury spill discovered on May 28th, 2024, City Council Member Sarah Stoeckel says
Staff at the post office have been in communication with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) regarding the HAZMAT incident.
The investigation points to a delivery truck as the source of the contamination, which registered higher-than-normal levels of mercury.
The extent of the contamination and the cause of the spill are still under investigation. FDEP has shut down all post office operations, and it is not clear when mail delivery service will be restored.
There have been no reports of serious injuries or illness related to the spill. However, officials are advising the public to avoid the area.
