Titusville water utility customers paying with cash will see their transactions rounded to the nearest nickel beginning Jan. 5, 2026, as the federal government prepares to phase out the penny.

The City of Titusville Customer Service Division announced the new policy will credit any rounded difference to the customer’s next monthly bill.

City officials said they will no longer provide pennies as change for these transactions once the U.S. Treasury begins removing the coin from circulation in 2026.

The change applies strictly to cash payments.

Customers paying by check, money order, credit or debit card, or online via Online Bank Direct will not see any changes to their billing process.

Under the new system, a bill totaling $66.84 paid with a $100 bill would result in a charge of $66.85.

The customer would receive $33.15 in change, and the 1-cent difference would appear as a credit on the following month’s statement.

Residents with questions regarding the upcoming policy change can contact the Customer Service Division at 321-383-5791.
