After Years Sitting Idle, Amazon’s Cocoa Facility Set to Open

After a two-year delay, Amazon is finally set to open its Cocoa distribution facility later this year. This facility, located at 3655 Grissom Parkway, will join other Amazon distribution centers across Florida in an expansion of the e-commerce giant’s presence in the state.

The Cocoa facility, spanning 202,044 square feet, received its certificate of occupancy in December 2021 but has remained idle since then. However, recent announcements from Amazon officials indicate that the facility is expected to open its doors sometime this fall.

The opening of the Cocoa facility is expected to bring hundreds of new job opportunities to the area. Samantha Senger, Cocoa’s director of communication and economic development, told Florida Today that she anticipates that information about local hiring opportunities will be released in the coming days.

Amazon touts its highly competitive pay, benefits, and training programs for in-demand jobs. The average pay for Amazon customer fulfillment positions is $20.50 per hour.

The opening of the Cocoa facility is expected to have a positive impact on the local economy. It will bring much-needed jobs to the area and enhance the overall tax base for the city, benefiting the entire North Brevard area.

The facility’s central location, with easy access to major highways, makes it an ideal location for Amazon’s rapidly growing logistics network. It is also expected to speed up deliveries for customers around Brevard County.

The opening of the Cocoa facility is part of Amazon’s broader commitment to Florida. The company has invested over $36 billion in the state since 2010 and currently employs over 52,000 people in Florida.

In addition to the Cocoa facility, Amazon is also opening distribution centers in Melbourne, Port St. Lucie, Jacksonville,and Tampa. The company is also building a satellite processing plant and flight hardware building at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center.
