The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office says they are actively investigating a shooting incident that occurred this afternoon in the 4000 block of Aurantia Road in Mims, resulting in a three-year-old boy being accidentally shot.
Deputies responded to a residence at approximately 12:20 p.m. today after a 911 call reported that a three-year-old boy had been accidentally shot.

The child was transported from the scene to a local hospital and subsequently life-flighted to Orlando for specialized medical treatment. According to the Sheriff’s Office, the child is listed in stable condition.
Major Crimes Agents and Crime Scene Investigators are currently on scene conducting interviews and meticulously collecting evidence to ascertain the sequence of events that led to the child’s injury.
The investigation is ongoing, and no arrests have been made at this time.

Update: Preliminary interviews conducted by the Sheriff’s Office indicate that the child was under the care of a relative at the time of the incident. They said the investigation has revealed that a teenager at the residence was attempting to move a firearm to a more secure location when the weapon accidentally discharged, striking the young boy.
