Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey announced the discovery of 25 kilograms of cocaine, found floating off Brevard’s coastline, and extended an “invitation” for the rightful owner to claim their property.

According to Ivey, the cocaine, which has a street value of approximately $1.7 million, was reported to the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) by a fisherman who found the drugs during a recent outing.

The packages, sealed for water resistance and marked with a distinctive scorpion logo, were likely lost from a vessel.

“All of us at one point or another in our lives have lost or misplaced something important,” Ivey said. “Since we always strive to do the right thing, our Narcotics Agents are trying to identify the rightful owner of the 25 kilos of cocaine that inadvertently fell off the back of someone’s boat.”

The sheriff assured that any claimants would be treated with the utmost care, offering not only the return of the drugs but also an “all-expenses-paid extensive staycation” at the county jail, humorously referred to as “Ivey’s Iron Bar Lodge.”

Ivey’s statement added a touch of levity while highlighting the dangerous and illegal nature of the find. The sheriff’s office is using the opportunity to stress the importance of community partnerships, such as the fisherman’s decision to report the discovery.
