Florida Power & Light bills to rise in January

State regulators in Florida have approved a request from Florida Power & Light and Duke Energy to raise rates.

The utilities cited high natural gas prices, which are currently at their highest level in over a decade, as a primary factor in their need to increase rates.

For the average 1,000 kilowatt-hour usage, FPL customers can expect to see a $5 increase in their monthly electric bills, with the average bill rising from $120.67 to $125.39.

While the power companies have acknowledged the difficult timing of these rate increases for consumers, they are offering energy-saving tips and assistance with bill payments to help offset the impact on customers
