Last updated on December 13, 2022

The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting that occurred last night, December 11, 2022, in Port St John.  Deputies responded to the McDonald’s located at 6857 North Highway 1 in Port St John, at approximately 8:30 p.m. in reference to a report that a person had been shot.

Upon arrival, deputies located 36-year-old Brandon Turner from Cocoa in the parking lot with a gunshot wound.  The Turner was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

The preliminary investigation has found that the Turner walked up to a vehicle in the parking lot and physically attacked a male driver who was eating his food.

Turner continued striking the driver during the unprovoked attack.  The driver armed himself with a firearm from within the vehicle and fired one shot, which struck Turner.

Based on evidence collected thus far, it appears the Turner mistakenly attacked the driver believing him to be someone else.

Agents from the Homicide and Crime Scene Units are currently in the process of interviewing potential witnesses and collecting evidence to determine the circumstances surrounding the death.

Anyone who may have information about this investigation is asked to please call Agent Neil Lee of the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office Homicide Unit at 321-633-8413.
