17-yr-old Attempted Murder Suspect Surrenders

A suspect wanted for an attempted murder is now in custody after a multi-agency search involving Cocoa Police, Brevard and Volusia County, ended this morning.

The 17-year-old male surrendered to Brevard County Sheriff’s Office SWAT officers who were actively searching a wooded area off of SR-5A near U.S. 1 just south of the Brevard/Volusia County line.

Late Tuesday evening, Cocoa Police detectives were notified by patrol officers following a night of reports involving a missing endangered juvenile who ran off with her 17-year-old boyfriend.

The boyfriend, is suspected of an attempted murder that occurred late Tuesday at a home on Japonica Lane. Because he is a juvenile his name is being withheld until charging documents are authorized.

The victim was stabbed and beaten and is in the hospital in critical condition. A suspect vehicle was identified and bulletins were issued to law enforcement agencies.

Further investigation revealed the suspect, his girlfriend, and a third person, were in Volusia County where authorities attempted to make contact.

The suspect vehicle and occupants fled from deputies who pursued the vehicle south back into Brevard County. The vehicle crashed just south of the county line off SR-5A near U.S. 1.

The occupants of the vehicle fled on foot. One person was taken into custody and the search continued for the others who are now in custody.

The investigation is ongoing and no other information will be released until the appropriate time.
