Shikeem Mallett — 30, of Titusville — was in a fight with 31-year-old Anthony Lamar Berry shortly before retrieving a gun from an apartment on Rock Pit Road and shooting into a crowd of people, striking Berry and killing him, according to an affidavit.

Mallett, who deputies said was known to live at the apartment, was seen by witnesses shooting into the crowd while standing in his doorway, records show. On surveillance video, six shots could be heard before Mallett was recorded entering a car that left the scene, deputies said.

According to the Titusville Police Department, the car was being driven by Michael Jones, 28, of Mims. Jones was arrested on Jan. 10 after detectives identified him from surveillance footage and obtained a confession from him, police said. He faces a felony accessory charge.

Mallett faces charges of second-degree murder, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. His initial court appearance was scheduled for Friday at 1:15 p.m.
